My barking dog and I are about to move into an apartment?

barking dog

I need help. My dog always whines and barks when left alone. I’m getting ready to move into an apartment and don’t want this to cause issues with my neighbors and landlord. Any good barking collars (no shock)? What have you had success with?

It sounds like your dog has separation anxiety. In this case a no-bark collar would not be a good idea because you would essentially be “correcting” him for being nervous or fearful. That could backfire on you.

Not to mention i wouldn’t trust any of the “automatic” no-bark collars - most of them will easily go off to the sound of other dogs barking, bark-like noises, and some will continue to shoot even after the dog stops. THey just aren’t trustworthy in my opinion…

Instead i would talk to a behaviorist about how to deal with separation anxiety. My aunt’s dog had it and they were told to crate him in a semi-dark room when they were gone, but only after a long walk to tire him out.

I would also exercise the legs off of him before I had to leave. A tired dog is a well behaved dog. There are collars that will spray a little citronella when the dog starts to bark excessively (like 3 barks).

ahh! dont get a barking collar! those are just plain mean! i had the same problem with my pup. we just took her to obediance class which worked on many other things as well and its a lot cheaper and more effective than a barking collar. but it does sound like separation anxiety but i cant tell from the info. we though my pup had sep anxiety but she didnt and it was really an easy problem to solve. talk to a trainer and they will be able to help you.

Check out citronella collars. No shock, just sprays a puff of citronella vapor in front of the dog’s face when they bark.

When I worked at an animal hospital, we had one for dogs who boarded that would literally bark themselves hoarse. It worked so well, the doctor bought a 2nd one and would “rent” it out to regular, trusted clients so they could “try before they buy” if they had a problem with a barking dog. We used the collar on everything from yapping Jack Russels & Beagles to howling Huskies, and it worked like a charm every time. I never saw it fail.

And the price has come down on them quite a bit in the last 8 years….you can find citronella collars for under $40 if you look online. Good luck!

either watch the dog whisperer or get a anti barking collar, there are spray ones, but if you want to do it the cruel way get him de-barked.
the dog whisperer thing really worked 100% for me, you just have to do it EXACTLY as Cesar does or it might not work
