Swollen gums are signs on gingivitis. It could be that he is not flossing or brushing his wisdom teeth properly and is causing this to happen. If his wisdom tooth has not completely erupted then his gum could be swollen because he has bacteria in the pocket (the small open space between the tissue and the tooth itself). The best way to get rid of the swelling would be the get rid of the tooth all together. This is why doctors always recommend wisdom tooth extractions. His tooth must not have enough room to fully erupt and this will continue to give him problems. It’s also very difficult for anyone to clean in that area. If he chooses to keep them.. just have him brush and floss a little better and this should help with the pain as well. Orajel can also help too.
